Morning Gongs Back to Gallery Back to Main Page

By ancient custom, five Teduray play a few minutes of gong music each morning around sunrise and each evening at the time of sunset. The gong music can be heard by both humans and spirits and announces the transfer of rights to use of the river. The humans may use the river in the daytime; the spirits use it at night. If a Teduray needs to go to the river at night-in order to fish, for instance-she or he must ask permission of the spirits to do so. (See Chapter 2)
