The "Mirab Hilton"

This is the small home we had a carpenter build for us in Mirab. Working off a sketch I had made on the back of an envelope, he put it together in just a few days. The roof was made of leaves of the nipa palm. It was actually very comfortable and was the first home that Audrey and I had actually owned in the ten years of our married life. There was no electricity, of course, and no running water; we collected rain off the roof in a metal cistern beside the kitchen. Audrey cooked on a wood stove. The small structure just to the right of the house was our privy. (See Chapter 1)
